Step one: Diapers get picked up on your delivery day and driven back to DGD HQ on Vandalia Street. We sort the diapers on a metal table, toss them into bins, and count them as we go. Why? Not because we enjoy the scent. We do it so we know how many diapers were used—that way we know how many to deliver the following week.
Step two: When all dirties are in the very nice bins by the sorting table, the diapers are rolled over to very big washing machines. The machines get going and there are several initial cycles that get the solids out of the machine. From there, cleaning agents are introduced in stages to open the fibers and then clean and sanitize the diapers. After all the splish-splashing in suds is done, they spin at a trillion MPH before getting pulled out and taken to the dryer.
Step three: The clean, dry diapers get wheeled to our folding zone where they're checked for stains, hand sorted, and stacked neatly for packaging. It's important to sort and fold by hand so we can make sure each diaper is in good condition—diapers that are tattered or have REALLY aggressive stains are removed and either tossed, or resold (used cloth diapers are phenomenal cleaning towels). From there, we pack your bags according to your usage and load them into our van—it's name is Jean Claude Van Diaper.
